The Serbian authorities are currently considering licensing crypto exchanges in the country, stating that they are ready to allow cryptocurrency trading services to operate as long as they are legal.

The Minister of Finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, announced that the government is preparing to issue licenses to cryptocurrency exchanges as early as next week and emphasized that allowing these exchanges to operate will be of great significance. important to the country.

Mali said that there are currently four crypto exchanges that have paid license registration fees and one of them will be allowed to operate in the near future.

“The crypto market is developing slowly but surely, soon some crypto exchanges in Serbia will be allowed to operate legally,” Mali said.

Serbia was one of the first countries to regulate crypto assets through law enforcement.

Serbia has announced the enactment of a law regulating cryptocurrencies in June 2021. The law proves cryptocurrencies are digital records of value that allow transactions. Since then, the number of crypto assets held by Serbs has grown at a high rate, with reports citing that over 200,000 Serbs are investing in crypto.

The minister added that Serbia is also developing its own cryptocurrency exchange, which is expected to be launched next year. He describes the exchange as a tool to push the country towards a better financial future.

Serbia’s neighbors like Croatia and Slovenia are also actively promoting cryptocurrency adoption. In particular, in Slovenia, there are currently more than 1,000 establishments accepting payments in Bitcoin.
